Review: Home

Home Home by Toni Morrison
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My first Toni Morrison book. Her recent passing compelled me to fix the Toni Morrison void in my reading library. I confess - I feel a bit slapped around by her rapid fire, raw sentences, which she uses like whips on her reader.

This book is a fine example of literature as blunt instrument. Every page was packed with wallops. I put it aside several times just to recover my senses. It is a simple enough story of hate, selfishness, destiny, and love. It is the horror woven through the story, in surprising little packets, that makes her writing so memorable and impactful.

Looking for the next Morrison read now ...
